Call for Applications: HKU Stone Centre Postdoctoral Fellows

The James M. and Cathleen D. Stone Centre on Socio-Economic Inequality in Asia (“HKU Stone Centre”) at The University of Hong Kong invites applications for Postdoctoral Fellowships. These fellowships are designed to support exceptional early-career scholars whose research focuses on wealth distribution, socio-economic inequality, and related social policy in Asia.

This two-year fellowship provides scholars with the opportunity to advance their research and writing within a vibrant, multidisciplinary environment. Fellows will receive a highly competitive salary package commensurate with qualifications and experience, including annual leave and comprehensive medical benefits.

Eligibility

We seek candidates who have recently obtained, or are about to obtain, a PhD in Sociology, Economics, Social Work, Social Policy, Social Statistics, or a closely related discipline. Applicants must demonstrate a strong background in robust and innovative social science research methodologies. Proficiency in written and spoken English and Chinese is essential, along with the ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team. Experience with advanced or mixed research methods is highly desirable. A proven publication record in peer-reviewed academic journals and success in securing research grants will be considered an advantage.

The successful appointee will contribute to one of SCoSEIA’s core research programmes:

  • Understanding the Nature of Income and Wealth Inequality and Wealth Creation (led by Professor Duoduo Xu)
  • Exploring the Effects of Shocks and Policies on Income and Wealth Inequality (led by Professor Bingjing Li)
  • Investigating the Networks and Behaviours of the Ultra-Rich (led by Professor Heng Chen)
  • Examining the Socio-Economic Impacts of Income and Wealth Inequality (led by Professor Paul Yip
